About YCTC

At York Cruiser Training Centre were about promoting boating activities in a safe responsible way. Second, to that, it's our hobby and we think it should be enjoyable and rewarding too.

Promoting boating when your 45 miles from the sea has its challenges but as we like to live in York as the surrounding areas we have to rise to overcome them and YCTC is our method.

We welcome everyone from total novice to world champion racer and enhance your boating experience by mainly

Offering local training courses with a human instructor.
Providing regular social events with likeminded individuals.
Arrange trips and visits with local marine organisations and persons of interest.
Form a link between boat owners and crew.
Arrange sailing trips further afield.

We are an RYA affiliated training centre and as such the training we provide is to the highest standard and all courses will result in an RYA certificate (if you pass in some cases.)

We have casual meetings every month in a pub setting, sometimes with a guest speaker. These are ideal times to interact with more experienced club members and make friends.

You will find we are very open and receptive to new members, we were all new once and at £10 our membership could well be the best investment you make in your boating career.

Paul Scaife - Cheif Shorebased Instructor Paul started sailing over 25 years ago with a short introduction to sailing course in the Mediterranean, and became hooked. He decided that he needed to know a little more about what he was doing Paul then completed the shorebased and practical courses with York Cruiser Training Centre before qualifying as a Yachtmaster Offshore some 10 years later.
During this time various crossings of the channel were interspersed with end of season deliveries in the Mediterranean, North Sea Crossings and trips up the Irish Sea.
For 12 years he was a member of a syndicate that owned a Bavaria 36 followed by a Bavaria Vision 40 based in Troon and cruised the Clyde and west coast of Scotland. Throughout his entire sailing career he has sailed on various boats based in Whitby, racing around the bay and along the coast in the club handicap fleet. Paul currently owns a half share in a Hunter 27 OOD in Whitby.
